The Emirates Dubai 7s returns to The Sevens Stadium in Dubai for three days of international rugby sevens, live music and one of the biggest crowds of the UAE sporting calendar. It is part rugby tournament, part festival, and part annual reunion for half the city, which is exactly why it has lasted so long.
First held in 1970, the Dubai 7s is often described as the longest-running sports event in the Middle East. It moved to its current purpose-built home off Al Ain Road in 2008, and that first year at the new ground set a single-day attendance record for the world series, with more than 50,000 fans through the gates.
The rugby: HSBC SVNS in Dubai
The international action takes place on Saturday and Sunday as part of HSBC SVNS, the global sevens series. Eight men’s and eight women’s teams are confirmed:
- Men: Argentina, Australia, Fiji, France, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain and the USA
- Women: Australia, Canada, Fiji, France, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and the USA
New Zealand arrive as defending champions in both competitions after doing the double in 2025. That makes them the side to beat, but Dubai has a long history of its own favourites. South Africa have won the men’s title here more times than anyone, with 11 titles, and Fiji’s flair has always played well with the crowd, most recently with their 2024 win.
Sevens suits a festival setting perfectly. Matches are short, play is fast and open, and there is a game on almost constantly, so you can drift between the stands and the fan areas without missing much.
Beyond the pitch: music and fan zones
The entertainment is as much a part of the weekend as the rugby. The 2026 music line-up has not been announced yet, with artists to be revealed closer to the date. For a sense of the scale, the 2025 edition brought Tinie Tempah, Sean Paul, Shaggy, DJ EZ and FISHER to Dubai.
Around the stadium, the action spreads across several named areas, including the Rugby Rocks Stage, Frequency 8, Beats on 2 and the Hospitality Garden. The wider Sevens site is a sprawling sports complex with eight rugby pitches, so it feels more like a small town than a single stadium on tournament weekend.
Those extra pitches are put to good use. Alongside the international series, the Dubai 7s traditionally hosts a Rugby Invitation Tournament with hundreds of teams across 15 sections, as well as netball and cricket sevens invitationals, so much of the UAE’s grassroots sport community is out on the grass too.
Choosing how you watch
There are three main ways to do the weekend, and the right one depends on how much comfort you want.
General Admission
The classic Sevens experience: access to the festival site and stadium with unallocated seating, so you can move around, find friends and settle wherever the atmosphere suits you.
Reserved Seating
A guaranteed seat in an allocated area of the South Stand, plus access to a premium bar at the top. Reserved seating holders enter through the main general admission gate.
Sunroom Hospitality Pass
The most relaxed option, with shaded seating in the North Grandstand overlooking Pitch 1, a shared hospitality space, food and drinks through the day, access to the VIP Grandstand Bar and the music areas, a separate VIP entrance, a VIP car park and transfers. Sunroom Hospitality is open from 8am to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday, with food served from 9am.
Bringing the family
The Sevens has always been a family weekend as much as a party, and tickets are split by age: Child (4 to 9), Youth (10 to 14) and Adult (15 and over), with combined adult and child options too. ID is not needed to get in, but you will need it to buy adult beverages. All food and drink must be bought on site, with the sensible exception of baby food. Prayer facilities are available on site on all three days.
Need-to-know for the weekend
- Gates open at 7am, with the VIP gate opening at 9am, and the site is open until 8:30pm.
- Last entry is 7:30pm, and there is no re-entry once you leave.
- Printed tickets are not accepted. Show your digital ticket on your phone; every guest needs their own QR code, and tickets cannot be linked to the Emirates Dubai 7s app.
- A shuttle bus service runs between the stadium and central pick-up points across Dubai, and taxis are available at the site.
Getting to The Sevens Stadium
The stadium sits on Al Ain Road (E66), on the edge of the city, which is why the shuttle buses are so popular. If you are driving, follow Al Ain Dubai Road; Sunroom guests have a dedicated VIP car park.
