Some of the most memorable performances happen far from a traditional stage. Perhaps Here, part of Sharjah Art Foundation’s Perform Sharjah programme, brings newly commissioned, site-specific short performances into Bait Al Serkal, a 19th-century heritage house in Sharjah’s Arts Square. Across three evenings, from 6 to 8 November, artists respond to the house itself, its rooms, courtyards and history, in a series of intimate works.

It is a lovely way to experience both contemporary performance and one of Sharjah’s historic buildings at the same time, and it is free to attend.

What to expect

According to Sharjah Art Foundation, the pieces range from theatre to reflections on memory and grief. Because the works are short and site-specific, you can expect to move through the house and encounter each performance in a different setting. That makes for a very different experience from sitting in a theatre seat, and it often feels more personal and immediate.
