Borderless Melodies brings Abida Parveen and Kailash Kher to Sheikh Rashid Hall at Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday 13 November 2026, putting Pakistan’s queen of Sufi music and one of India’s best-loved Sufi-folk voices on the same stage for one night. Doors open at 7pm and the concert begins at 9pm.
It is the first edition of Borderless Melodies, a new music and cultural series from HOP Events, presented by Pantheon Development and produced by HOP Events with Eyeconyx. The listing invites audiences to witness two iconic voices blending traditions into one musical journey.
Who is Abida Parveen?
Abida Parveen was born in 1954 in Larkana, in Pakistan’s Sindh province, and is widely known as the Queen of Sufi music. Her repertoire spans ghazal, qawwali and thumri, but her speciality is the kafi, a solo devotional form usually sung with harmonium and percussion. She is famous for giving voice to the great Sufi poets, including Bulleh Shah, Amir Khusro and Sachal Sarmast.
A new generation discovered her through Coke Studio Pakistan, where she first appeared in 2010. Her duet with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan on Chaap Tilak, the Amir Khusro poem, became one of the show’s best-known performances, and she has also recorded with Ali Sethi, Rais Khan and Naseebo Lal. Pakistan has honoured her with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2012 and the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the country’s highest civilian award, in 2021.
On stage she is often seen wrapped in the Sindhi ajrak shawl, a nod to her home province. For many fans in the Gulf, the chance to hear her live, in a hall set up entirely around the music, is reason enough to book.
Who is Kailash Kher?
Kailash Kher was born in Delhi in 1973 and grew up partly in Meerut. His breakthrough came with Allah Ke Bande in 2003, the song that first made his name with audiences across South Asia and the diaspora. He went on to form the band Kailasa in Mumbai in 2004 with brothers Paresh and Naresh Kamath, and the band’s debut album followed in 2006, with hits such as Teri Deewani. Ya Rabba, from the 2007 film Salaam-e-Ishq, became another widely loved song.
His music blends Indian folk and Sufi traditions with pop and rock, and he moves comfortably between ghazal, qawwali, folk and devotional songs. By 2014 he had recorded more than 500 songs for Hindi films, more than 1,000 radio and television jingles, and sung in over 20 Indian languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Punjabi. India awarded him the Padma Shri in 2017.
Why this pairing works
On paper, the two singers come from different countries and different musical worlds. In practice, they share a lot: both draw on the Sufi tradition, both sing devotional poetry with real emotional force, and both have audiences that cross the border between India and Pakistan. That is exactly the idea behind Borderless Melodies, whose tagline is One Stage. Many Cultures. One Voice.
The listing does not publish a running order or say whether the artists will perform together. Expect each to bring their own set and their own band, with the evening shaped around two contrasting journeys through the same spiritual territory.
Who it suits
This concert speaks directly to Dubai’s Pakistani and Indian communities, but you do not need to share either background to be moved by it. Lovers of Sufi music, qawwali and ghazal will feel at home, as will anyone who grew up with Coke Studio or Bollywood soundtracks. It also makes a meaningful family outing, particularly with parents or grandparents who have followed these singers for decades. No age policy is listed on the ticket page.
The venue: Sheikh Rashid Hall
Sheikh Rashid Hall is one of the large halls inside Dubai World Trade Centre, the exhibition and events complex beside Sheikh Zayed Road. Food and drinks are available to buy on site, so you do not need to rush dinner before doors.
A few house rules apply. Every guest needs a valid ticket, and there is no re-entry once your ticket has been scanned. Smoking is banned inside Dubai World Trade Centre, and cameras and recording devices may be restricted, so check before filming. Ticket sales are final unless the event is officially cancelled or rescheduled.
Getting there
By Metro, take the Red Line to World Trade Centre station; the listing allows about 19 minutes on foot to the hall, so factor in the walk. By car, head north-east on Sheikh Zayed Road, take the exit towards 2nd Zaa’beel Street, continue via Zaa’beel Palace Street and Al Mustaqbal Street, and follow GPS through the roundabouts. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are an easy alternative for the late finish.
