Desert Vipers vs Gulf Giants ILT20 2026 in Dubai is a Sunday evening DP World ILT20 Season 5 match at Dubai International Stadium on 29 November, between the defending champions and the side that won the league’s very first title. Gates open at 3:30pm, and the Season 5 schedule lists the first ball for 6:30pm, under the lights in Dubai Sports City.
It is a fixture with history: the two teams met in the first ILT20 final in 2023, and they arrive at this one from very different places.
A rivalry that started in the first final
The ILT20 began in January 2023, and its first final was Gulf Giants against Desert Vipers. The Giants won by seven wickets to become the league’s first champions, with captain James Vince finishing as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer and Chris Jordan taking 20 wickets, the most of anyone that season. The Giants reached the playoffs again in 2024.
For the Vipers, that final was the first of two final defeats. They lost the 2025 final to Dubai Capitals before finally winning the title in January 2026, beating MI Emirates by 46 runs at Dubai International Stadium. Captain Sam Curran made an unbeaten 74 in that final and collected the Most Valuable Player and Best Batter belts for the season.
The Giants, meanwhile, finished fifth in both 2025 and 2025–26, so this match pits a champion side against a former champion trying to get back to the top table.
The teams
Desert Vipers
Desert Vipers are owned by Lancer Capital and start Season 5 as the team to beat. They open their title defence against MI Emirates at this same ground on 21 November, and this will be their fifth match in nine days, coming the evening after they play MI Emirates in Abu Dhabi on Saturday afternoon. Season 5 previews named Babar Azam, Shimron Hetmyer and Naseem Shah among their players; Naseem took 3 for 18 in last season’s final.
Gulf Giants
Gulf Giants are owned by the Adani Group and play their home games at Dubai International Stadium. Their Season 5 squad has serious batting power: Khaleej Times named Heinrich Klaasen, Liam Livingstone and David Miller among their players, three proven big hitters in T20 cricket around the world. Against a Vipers attack led by Naseem, that is the contest to watch.
Final squads and playing elevens are confirmed nearer the time, so check the official ILT20 channels for team news.
Season 5 at a glance
Season 5 runs from 21 November to 20 December 2026, with six teams playing 10 group matches each and the top four reaching the playoffs. Dubai International Stadium hosts 15 of the 34 matches, more than any other ground, including the Eliminator on 17 December and the final on 20 December.
This is the second of two games on Sunday 29 November, following Abu Dhabi Knight Riders against Sharjah Warriorz at 2pm in Abu Dhabi. The two sides meet again at the same Dubai ground on 13 December.
Dubai International Stadium on match day
Dubai International Stadium sits in Dubai Sports City on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and holds around 25,000 people. It is one of the region’s best-known cricket grounds and hosted the final of the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, so it is well used to big crowds and night cricket. Seating is first come, first served in every area except the Platinum Enclosure, and some seats have restricted views. Parking is available at the stadium, and unlike the Abu Dhabi ground, tickets can also be bought at the stadium box office, subject to availability.
By public transport, take the Metro Red Line (Route 2020) to Dubai Internet City station and change to the F34 bus to Dubai Sports City. Taxis are widely available across the city, and ride-hailing apps can drop you close to the gates.
