About this event

Desert Vipers vs MI Emirates in Dubai opens Season 5 of the DP World ILT20 on Saturday 21 November 2026 at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai Sports City. It is a rematch of last season’s final, with the defending champions Desert Vipers starting their title defence against the side they beat to lift the trophy. Gates open at 3:30pm.

The organisers sum it up simply: be there from the first ball as a new season begins in Dubai.

A rematch of the Season 4 final

The last ILT20 final was played at this same ground on 4 January 2026, and it belonged to the Desert Vipers. Batting first, they made 182 for 4, built around an unbeaten 74 from 51 balls by captain Sam Curran, with Max Holden adding 41 and Dan Lawrence a quick 23. MI Emirates, led by Kieron Pollard, were bowled out for 136 in 18.3 overs as Naseem Shah took 3 for 18 and David Payne 3 for 42. The 46-run win gave the Vipers their first ILT20 title, and Curran, the season’s top run scorer with 397, was player of the match.

The final was the second meeting between the two sides in the Season 4 playoffs. They had already faced each other in Qualifier 1, where a century from Andries Gous took the Vipers straight through to the final, before MI Emirates fought their way back for a second shot at them. The Vipers’ total of 182 in the final then proved far too many.

That victory ended years of near misses for the Vipers, who had lost the final in the league’s first season in 2023 and again in 2025. MI Emirates have their own history at the top: they won the second edition in 2024, so they arrive at this opener as former champions looking to settle a score. The organisers point out that the two sides have produced some of the most memorable contests in the competition’s first four seasons, which gives the first game of the new campaign an edge from the start.

About the DP World ILT20

The International League T20 is the UAE’s franchise Twenty20 competition, with six teams: Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Desert Vipers, Dubai Capitals, Gulf Giants, MI Emirates and Sharjah Warriorz. Season 4 ran from early December 2025 to 4 January 2026 across 34 matches. Season 5 starts earlier in the calendar, in late November, which makes this opener one of the first big sporting nights of the UAE winter.

Line-ups for Season 5 had not been confirmed on the ticket page, so check the official ILT20 channels nearer the day for squads and the toss.

Who it suits

This is the match for anyone who wants to see the ILT20 season start in person, from Vipers fans celebrating the title to MI Emirates supporters hoping for revenge. It also works well for families, with the lap-seat rule for under-fives making a first live cricket outing easy to arrange, and for visitors who have never seen franchise T20 cricket in the UAE.
