Gulf Giants vs Desert Vipers ILT20 2026 in Dubai is the last league-stage meeting of the season between the DP World ILT20’s first champions and its current ones, played at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday 13 December. Gates open at 3:30pm, and the ticket page notes that evening matches begin at 6:30pm. With the playoffs only days away, this Sunday night game could shape who goes through.
A rivalry that began in the first final
These two sides have history. When the ILT20 launched in January 2023, its very first final was Gulf Giants against Desert Vipers, and the Giants won it by seven wickets to become the league’s inaugural champions.
The Vipers had to wait. They lost the 2025 final to Dubai Capitals, then finally lifted the trophy in January 2026, beating MI Emirates by 46 runs at this same ground, with captain Sam Curran making an unbeaten 74. They start Season 5 as defending champions, and the ticket page points out that they have held the upper hand in recent meetings with the Giants, so the 2023 winners have a point to prove.
That first Giants title was built on captain James Vince, the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer, and Chris Jordan, whose 20 wickets were the most of anyone that season. The Giants made the playoffs again in 2024 but finished fifth in both of the last two seasons. The Vipers’ title, by contrast, came after two lost finals, and Curran collected the Most Valuable Player and Best Batter awards for the season. The two sides already met once this season, at the same ground on 29 November, so this is the return fixture.
Why this one matters
Season 5 runs from 22 November to 20 December 2026 in a double round-robin format, with each pair of teams meeting twice before the top four reach the playoffs. As the second and final league meeting between these two, the 13 December game comes at the sharp end of the table, when net run rate and a single win can decide a playoff place. Dubai International Stadium also hosts the final on 20 December.
The teams
Gulf Giants
The Giants play their home games at Dubai International Stadium and are built around powerful batting. Players retained ahead of Season 5 include England’s Jos Buttler and two of South Africa’s most destructive hitters, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, alongside Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai and Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani.
Desert Vipers
The champions retained former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, West Indies hitter Shimron Hetmyer, England’s Dan Lawrence, Andries Gous and Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Mujeeb’s mystery spin against the Giants’ big hitters in the middle overs is likely to be one of the key contests of the evening.
Captains and final playing elevens are confirmed closer to the match, so check the official ILT20 channels for team news.
