The Hand Building Pottery Workshop 2026 in Ras Al Khaimah invites you to shape clay by hand at Creative Hands Pottery Studio on Corniche Al Qawasim, with sessions between 21 and 29 October 2026. There is no pottery wheel involved, just your hands, a few simple tools and step-by-step help from the studio’s instructors.
About Hand Building Pottery Workshop in Ras Al Khaimah
Hand building is the gentlest way into pottery. Instead of wrestling with a spinning wheel, you shape clay directly with your hands, which makes it a relaxed choice for complete beginners as well as anyone wanting a creative break.
Each session lasts about an hour and a half. The instructors guide you through the basics, from how clay behaves and how to handle it, to building forms that are sturdy enough to last.
The session includes 600 g of clay, all the tools and materials you need, ceramic colour painting, and glazing and kiln firing. Once your piece has been fired, you collect it from the studio.
The studio is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays, so there are plenty of chances to fit a session into your week.
What to Expect
You learn three classic hand building techniques, then put them to use on a piece of your own.
Pinch, Coil and Slab
Pinch pottery shapes a ball of clay with your fingers. Coil building stacks rolled lengths of clay into walls. Slab building uses flat sheets of clay that are cut and joined. Each one opens up different shapes.
Joining and Finishing
You will also learn scoring and slipping to join pieces together, plus smoothing, adding texture and surface decoration. These small skills make a big difference to the final result.
What You Can Make
Ideas include mugs, bowls and plates, vases and pots, jewellery trays and holders, figurines and small sculptures, and tile mosaics or wall hangings.
Firing and Collection
After the session your piece is trimmed, then air-dried for 10 to 15 days. It goes through a bisque firing and a glaze firing in the kiln, with cooling time after each. The studio’s own guidance on collection timing varies, so ask when you book how long to allow before pickup.
