Secondhand Serenade Live 2026 in Dubai brings John Vesely’s project back to the city on Saturday 5 December, at Jubilee Park in Expo City Dubai. It follows what the organisers call a hugely successful, sold-out Dubai show in November 2025, and this time the songs come with a full band behind them. The listing’s own pitch is simple: a chance to relive nostalgic emo anthems, Fall for You included, out in the open air.
Who is Secondhand Serenade?
Secondhand Serenade is the stage name of John Vesely, a singer-songwriter from Menlo Park in the San Francisco Bay Area, who started performing under the name in 2004. It is essentially a solo project, but one that has toured with a band since its second album. Vesely built his audience the mid-2000s way: he self-released his debut album, Awake, in 2005, recording it with just an acoustic guitar and layered vocals, and promoted it through MySpace and local gigs. By the end of 2006 his songs had racked up millions of plays and he spent months as MySpace’s number one independent artist.
That following led to a deal with Glassnote Records, which reissued Awake in 2007; that version reached number 164 on the Billboard 200, a notable result for a record first made alone with an acoustic guitar. The breakthrough came with A Twist in My Story in 2008, his first full-band record, and its lead single Fall for You, which reached number 21 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Platinum by the RIAA in November 2008, later going on to multi-platinum status. Further albums followed with Hear Me Now in 2010 and Undefeated in 2014, along with the Weightless EP, A Naked Twist in My Story, a stripped-back remake of the 2008 album, and a remastered edition of Awake in 2017.
The songs you will hear
The listing names four songs fans will be waiting for, and they span the early years of the project:
- Fall for You, the 2008 single that took the project into the charts and onto countless late-night playlists.
- Vulnerable, one of the best-loved tracks from the Awake era.
- Stay Close, Don’t Go, another song from the Awake years.
- Don’t Move, another early favourite.
Because many of these songs began life as voice-and-guitar recordings, the full-band format is the interesting part of this show. Fans who know the acoustic originals get to hear them with the weight of a full band, the way the project has performed since A Twist in My Story.
Why the Dubai return matters
The November 2025 show sold out, which says a lot about how many people in the UAE grew up with this music. The listing leans into that nostalgia directly, framing the night as a return to the emo era. Expect a crowd that knows the words and sings along, rather than one that watches politely.
Timings
Doors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 8:30pm, according to the ticket page, so there are two hours between entry and the first song. No support act has been announced so far.
Jubilee Park and the house rules
Jubilee Park is an open-air events space at Expo City Dubai, the legacy site of Expo 2020, and one of the city’s main outdoor concert venues in the cooler months. By car, head south on Sheikh Zayed Road (E11), take Exit 20 onto Expo Road (E77), continue along Boulevard 2020 and turn onto Street 8. The organisers recommend using GPS, and taxis and ride-hailing apps are an easy alternative.
Age policy
The concert is for ages 14 and over. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 21 or over.
Bags and prohibited items
Bags larger than 30 x 30 x 15 cm, including large backpacks, are not allowed, so a small bag is the way to go. The banned list is long and includes power banks, laptops, glass, umbrellas, selfie sticks, tripods, drones and professional cameras, including lenses over 35mm. Outside food and drink are not permitted, except baby food and medically required items. Scooters and other personal transport devices, face-concealing clothing and political or offensive displays are also prohibited, and venue staff can refuse entry or remove items.
Who it suits
This one is for anyone whose teenage soundtrack included MySpace-era emo and acoustic pop, long-time fans who caught the 2025 show and want to hear the songs with a full band, and groups of friends who shared those playlists the first time round. Teenagers aged 14 and over who discovered the songs more recently can come too, with an adult if they are under 16.
