Eating out in Jumeirah

Jumeirah stretches along the coast south of the city centre, and it has a very different feel to the towers of Downtown or Business Bay. Low rise villas, palm lined streets and long public beaches set the tone, and the dining scene follows suit. You will find beach clubs and seafront restaurants, smart hotel dining rooms and independent restaurants tucked into converted villas along Jumeirah Street.

The coastline is the star. La Mer and the J1 Beach development bring together a row of glamorous beachfront restaurants, while resorts such as the Four Seasons add polished hotel dining just steps from the sand. It is a neighbourhood made for long lunches that drift into the evening.

Away from the beach, Jumeirah Street and the roads around it hide a good number of villa restaurants and cafes with their own gardens and terraces. They tend to feel more personal than the big hotel venues, and they are popular with residents for weekend breakfasts and catch ups. Smart casual dress works almost everywhere, though beach clubs may have their own rules, so check before you go.

What Jumeirah does best

  • Beachfront lunches: sand between your toes and the sea in view is the Jumeirah signature.
  • Date night: candlelit tables and sunset views make for easy romance.
  • Weekend breakfasts: relaxed morning spreads suit lazy weekends with friends.
  • Families: beaches, parks and open spaces nearby make it easy to combine lunch with a day out. Browse our things to do in Dubai guide.
  • Stylish nights: some restaurants turn into lively lounges later on. See our nightlife page.

Getting to Jumeirah

The Dubai Metro does not run along the Jumeirah coast, and there is no station within easy walking distance of La Mer. The nearest Red Line stations, such as Financial Centre, Emirates Towers and World Trade Centre, are a short taxi ride away, so many visitors combine the Metro with a taxi. Buses also run along Jumeirah Beach Road.

Driving is the most common way to get around. J1 Beach has a centralised valet, La Mer has paid car parks alongside limited street parking, and many restaurants, including hotel venues, offer valet. Weekend afternoons can be busy, so allow extra time to park.

Best times to go

From around October to April, Jumeirah is at its best, with warm days perfect for beachfront lunches and breezy evenings for outdoor dinners. Sunset is the most sought after time for seaside tables. In summer, we book indoor tables or head out after dark, when the beachfront comes alive.
