About this event

Sergey Orlov: Star 2026 in Dubai brings one of Russia’s best-known stand-up comedians to JAFZA One Convention Centre on Thursday 17 December with his new programme, Star (in Russian, «Звезда»). Promising honest stories, relatable humour and fresh material, the show is performed in Russian and runs for about two hours. Doors open at 6pm and Orlov takes the stage at 7pm.

Who is Sergey Orlov?

Sergey Orlov (Сергей Орлов) was born in 1993 in Deputatsky, a small settlement in the far north of Yakutia, and much of his comedy draws on that background: life in the provinces, family, growing up and working out who you are. After school he moved to Yakutsk, where he started doing stand-up in the early 2010s and helped organise the region’s first stand-up club, the Northern Stand Up Club.

His breakthrough came at the Punchline festival, where he won the award for best solo concert in 2018. He then moved to Moscow and became a resident of Stand Up Club #1, one of the city’s best-known comedy venues. He made his first big television appearance on Evening Urgant in 2019, later hosted the comedy format Roast Battle, and received the Forbes “New Media” award.

Built on YouTube

Orlov launched his YouTube channel in 2017 to post his sets, and it has grown to well over a million subscribers, with his videos passing tens of millions of views. He has said that the internet lets comedians build their own audience without needing television or producers, and his career is a good example. His channel also hosts projects such as the video journal “Sup” and a kitchen podcast.

Five specials and counting

Orlov has released five solo stand-up specials, from his debut Genetic Province («Генетическая провинция») to Good Intentions. Other titles include Impostor and The Man with a Dog’s Head, and in 2026 his special Transition Age («Переходный возраст») was released after a tour of Russia and a show in St Petersburg in front of around 12,000 people. That special played on the idea that awkward “transition ages” are not just for teenagers, but for adults too.

Star is his new programme for 2026, so audiences in Dubai will hear new material rather than a greatest-hits set.

His style

Orlov’s comedy is story-led and observational, built on warmth and timing rather than shock. In interviews he has said his aim is “to entertain people, not to offend them”, and that he believes discipline beats talent: performing every day is what keeps the material sharp. Expect long, carefully built stories with plenty of self-deprecation, and jokes that land because the audience recognises themselves in them.

His recurring subjects include provincial life, drinking culture and the search for a sense of direction, and he often plays with regional slang from Yakutia. He has also been clear about his limits: he has said he will not joke about human grief or religion, which he treats as off-limits. For anyone wary of edgy stand-up, that makes this a more good-natured night than the 18+ rating might suggest.

The venue: JAFZA One Convention Centre

JAFZA One Convention Centre is in Jebel Ali Freezone, at Mina Jebel Ali in the south of Dubai. The venue has ample parking as well as a valet service.

Getting there

  • By car: from Sheikh Zayed Road (E11), take exit 17 towards Mena Jabal Ali Street and PJA Port Gate 5, then move into the left lane and continue through the traffic light.
  • By Metro and bus: take the Red Line to UAE Exchange station, the closest Metro stop, then bus F54, which stops near the venue.

Who it suits

This is a night for Russian-speaking comedy fans in the UAE, from long-time followers of his YouTube channel to anyone who has watched his specials and wants to see him live. With its 18+ rule, it is an adults-only evening, well suited to groups of friends and couples looking for a big laugh before the holidays, and a rare chance to catch a full new Russian-language programme without travelling.
