About this event

Sapan Verma Live 2027 in Dubai brings one of the founders of modern Indian stand-up back to the city for a long-awaited solo night at Live@Play in Al Quoz. Presented by Sublime Entertainment in association with MTO37, it is a brand new show, performed roughly half in Hindi and half in English, so mixed groups of friends can enjoy it together.

Gates open at 7pm and the show starts at 7:30pm on Saturday 6 February 2027.

Who is Sapan Verma?

Sapan Verma was one of the co-founders of The East India Comedy in 2012, alongside Sorabh Pant, Kunal Rao and Sahil Shah. Along with All India Bakchod, the collective is widely credited with reshaping Indian comedy in the early 2010s. EIC played a record-breaking 130 shows in 2013, ran satirical sketches on YouTube about politics and the film industry, and hosted the Ghanta Awards, India’s answer to the Razzies.

As a solo comedian, Sapan became the first Indian comic to release a stand-up special on Amazon Prime Video, Obsessive Comedic Disorder, which led to more than 2,000 live shows and tours across the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Dubai, with other stops over the years in cities such as New York, Paris, Tokyo and Barcelona. He has also represented India at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2017 and the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023, and opened for Coldplay and Jay-Z in front of a huge crowd at the Global Citizen Festival in India.

From One Mic Stand to Bollywood

Many viewers know Sapan best as the host of One Mic Stand, the Amazon Prime Video series in which famous faces try stand-up for the first time with help from professional comedians. Its first season in 2019 featured Bhuvan Bam, Taapsee Pannu, Richa Chadha, Vishal Dadlani and Shashi Tharoor, and the second, in 2021, brought in Karan Johar, Sunny Leone, Chetan Bhagat, Faye D’Souza and Raftaar. Comedians including Zakir Khan, Kunal Kamra, Samay Raina and Neeti Palta appeared as mentors and guests across the two seasons.

He was also a judge and mentor on Prime Video’s Comicstaan, has written material for the IIFA, Screen and Filmfare awards, and has worked in Bollywood as a comedy consultant on Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and a dialogue writer on Friday Night Plan.

What to expect from the show

This is a solo evening with fresh material, so even long-time fans will be hearing new jokes. His recent show Lower Back Pain gives a flavour of where his comedy has been heading: turning mental burnout into stories, turning 35, becoming a father, a trip to Amsterdam, feeling superior to Gen Z and, of course, a bad back. Expect a grown-up, self-deprecating look at adult life from someone who has been on Indian comedy stages for well over a decade.

  • A brand new solo show, billed as his long-awaited return to Dubai.
  • Half Hindi, half English, which makes it easier than many Indian comedy nights for friends who are not fluent in Hindi.
  • Ages 14 and above only, so teenagers can come along with their parents.
  • No photography or filming once the show begins.

The venue: Live@Play, Al Quoz

Live@Play, also listed as Live @ Play by Hive, is in Warehouse B17 on ABA Avenue in Al Quoz Industrial Area 2. Seating is general admission and first come, first served, so arriving when the gates open gives you the widest choice.

A few house rules apply. Outside food and drinks are not permitted, and smoking and vaping are not allowed anywhere on the premises. Tickets are non-refundable once bought, but if you cannot make it, you can exchange your ticket with another fan. For any ticket issues, the listing asks you to contact Platinumlist directly.

Who it suits

The show suits anyone who grew up on EIC sketches or binged One Mic Stand, fans of Indian stand-up in the UAE, and groups of friends after a relaxed Saturday night out. The even mix of Hindi and English means it also works for couples or colleagues where only one person speaks Hindi well.

Getting there

The warehouse is easiest to find with GPS. From Downtown Dubai, take Al Asayel Street, turn left onto Latifa Bint Hamdan Street (D67) and keep left, then take the slight right onto the ramp to 26th Street. Go straight through the roundabout, stay left on 26th Street and turn right; the venue is on your left. Limited paid RTA parking is available at the venue.

By bus, take route 84 to the Ducast Factory 1 stop, then walk for about two minutes. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are also an easy option for Al Quoz.
