About this event

Abdelkader Secteur, the Algerian comedian billed as Algeria’s most beloved stand-up, returns to Emirates Theatre in Dubai on Sunday 8 November 2026 for two hours of storytelling comedy. Presented by Gala Showtime, the night follows what the promoter calls a hugely successful show in the city last year, and it is aimed squarely at Arabic-speaking comedy fans, especially lovers of North African humour.

Doors open at 6:30pm and the show begins at 7:30pm. The promoter promises around 120 minutes of comedy, so this is a full evening rather than a short set on a mixed bill.

Who is Abdelkader Secteur?

Abdelkader Secteur is the stage name of Abdelkader Rahmoun, who comes from Ghazaouet in the Tlemcen province of north-west Algeria. According to his French Wikipedia entry, he worked a string of odd jobs before he started entertaining at parties in 1998, after making the guests laugh at a wedding.

His big break came online. A video of him circulating on YouTube caught the attention of Jamel Debbouze, the French comedian and actor, who invited him to France and to the Jamel Comedy Club. From there he went on to play the Comedy Club in Paris and Marrakech du rire, the comedy festival Debbouze founded in Morocco, and to tour France, Algeria, Morocco and Belgium. That route, from wedding The Entertainer to French comedy clubs, explains a lot about his style: he learned to read a room full of families long before he played theatres.

On screen as well as on stage

Secteur has also acted in film. He appeared in Rachid Bouchareb’s Hors-la-loi in 2010, the Algerian independence drama that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and in Mohamed Hamidi’s Né quelque part in 2013, a comedy set partly in Algeria with Jamel Debbouze in the cast, and he starred in the 2015 comedy series Tayeb et Abdelkader Secteur. Even so, live stand-up remains the heart of his work, and his one-man shows are performed in Arabic, starting out in his local dialect and later using one understood across Algeria.

What the show is about

Secteur is a storyteller first. Rather than rapid-fire one-liners, his comedy builds slowly through tales that twist and land, often drawn from situations everyone in the room has lived through. The Dubai listing highlights his sharp wit, his storytelling and his take on everyday life.

The subjects are familiar ones: family life, cultural traditions and the funny realities of daily routines. Add a cast of characters he brings to life on stage, and the warm, teasing North African humour his fans know well, and you have a show that feels personal and easy to share with friends or relatives. If you grew up with Algerian, Moroccan or Tunisian family gatherings, expect plenty of moments where you recognise an aunt, an uncle or yourself.

A return visit

This is not Secteur’s first time performing in Dubai. Gala Showtime is bringing him back after last year’s show, which gives fans who missed it a second chance and those who went a reason to return. Repeat bookings in the city are a good sign of a comedian who connects with the local Arabic-speaking audience.

The venue: Emirates Theatre

Emirates Theatre is inside Emirates International School in Jumeirah, on Al Thanya Street. It is a school theatre, so the setting is intimate rather than arena-sized, which suits a storyteller who works with the crowd. Seating is sold in tiers, from Bronze through Silver and Gold up to VIP.

Two house rules are worth knowing. Filming and photography during the performance are strictly prohibited, so phones stay in pockets for the two hours. Food from outside is not allowed inside the theatre, so eat before you arrive or plan dinner afterwards.

Who it suits

This show is made for Arabic speakers, and it will land best with audiences familiar with Algerian and wider North African culture. It is a great choice for a night out with friends, siblings or cousins, the sort of evening that ends with everyone repeating their favourite lines on the drive home.

No age policy is listed on the ticket page. Because the comedy is built on family stories and everyday life rather than shock value, it may appeal across generations, but check with the organiser before booking for younger children. Non-Arabic speakers will struggle to follow much of the material, as the show relies on language and storytelling.

Getting there

By car, take Umm Suqeim Street, then Al Wasl Road, turn right onto Al Thanya Street and right again into the school. By Metro, ride the Red Line to Equiti Metro Station and walk a short distance. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are an easy option from most parts of Dubai.
