Comedy @ the Speakeasy is MadCat Comedy’s stand-up night at Moon Bar by SANA, a hidden speakeasy tucked inside SANA restaurant at Jumeirah Mina Al Salam in Dubai. It brings a rotating line-up of the city’s funniest local comedians into a small, low-lit room for an evening that is billed as no-filter, loud, unpredictable and occasionally a little wild.

The appeal is the combination: a proper stand-up show, a secret-feeling bar and a resort setting in Madinat Jumeirah, all in one evening. It is a very different atmosphere from a theatre or an arena comedy gig, and that is exactly the point.

The room: a speakeasy inside SANA

SANA is an Uzbek-led restaurant at Jumeirah Mina Al Salam, serving Silk Road-inspired food with a contemporary edge under chef Glen Ballis. Hidden behind a discreet entrance inside the restaurant is MOON, also known as Moon Bar by SANA: an intimate after-hours speakeasy designed for small nights out rather than big club crowds. When it opened, it was reported to hold up to 80 guests, which gives you an idea of how close you will be to the comedians. The bar launched with a Halloween party in 2025 and also runs as a late-night bar, with DJ sets and bottle service from 10pm.

That scale is what makes comedy work here. In a room this size, every laugh is shared and every heckle is heard, and MadCat describes the experience as more intimate, more real and more fun than the usual night out. The venue is run by BIK Hospitality Group, the team behind SANA, and the pairing is designed so you can have dinner and then head straight into a late evening without changing location.

What the comedy is like

There is no single headliner. MadCat Comedy works with a rotating line-up of local comedians, and names are not listed in advance, so part of the fun is not knowing exactly who you will see. Expect a mix of stand-up styles, a few surprise moments and comedians who are happy to push the line, just a bit.

Mind the front row

MadCat is upfront about this: audience members may be picked on, so do not sit in the front row unless you are ready to become part of the show. Seating, where it applies, is first come, first served unless stated otherwise.

MadCat also runs Joke Hub on Saturdays at Canopy by Hilton Dubai Al Seef and Comedy Lab on Thursdays at Radisson RED Dubai Silicon Oasis. The Speakeasy is the most bar-like of the formats, with a cocktail-lounge feel and a resort location, so it suits people who want their comedy with a side of atmosphere.

How the evening works

The show runs from 7pm to 9:30pm, so it is an early-evening plan that leaves time for something else afterwards. Your ticket includes one drink from a specially curated drinks menu. MadCat recommends arriving an hour early if you want to have dinner first, and SANA’s menu is right there.

• This is a strictly adult night: tickets are for guests aged 21 and over, and valid ID may be requested at entry.
• Bring a valid printed or digital ticket; invalid, duplicate or used tickets may be refused.
• Late arrivals may be admitted at a suitable break in the show.
• The show may be photographed or recorded for promotion; tell staff if you would prefer not to appear.
• Bookings cannot be cancelled or changed once made, unless the organiser cancels or reschedules.

Who it suits

• Couples after a date night with dinner, a drink and a few good laughs in one place
• Friends who like a smaller, more social setting than a big comedy venue
• Hotel guests and Madinat Jumeirah visitors looking for an evening that does not involve getting in a taxi
• Comedy fans keen to see the comics on Dubai’s local circuit up close

It is less suited to anyone who would rather keep a low profile, given how close the seating is and how much the comedians enjoy working the room.

Getting there

Jumeirah Mina Al Salam is part of the Madinat Jumeirah resort on Jumeira Street in Umm Suqeim, near Burj Al Arab. Valet parking is available at the main hotel entrance, and once inside, hotel staff can direct you to SANA and the speakeasy entrance. Pick-up and drop-off are not included, so most guests arrive by car or taxi.

Being inside Madinat Jumeirah also means you can turn it into a longer night, with the resort’s waterways and souk a short walk away before or after the show.
