ILT20 Qualifier 1 in Abu Dhabi brings the first play-off of DP World ILT20 Season 5 to Zayed Cricket Stadium on Wednesday 16 December 2026. The teams that finish first and second in the league table meet under the lights, and the winner goes straight through to the Final in Dubai four days later.
The loser is not out. They get a second chance in Qualifier 2 in Sharjah on 18 December, which is what makes this the one knockout game where both sides still have something to lose and something in reserve. First ball is at 6:30pm, with gates opening at 4:30pm.
How the ILT20 Qualifier 1 fits into the play-offs
Season 5 of the DP World International League T20, the UAE’s franchise T20 league, is a six-team, 34-match tournament played between late November and 20 December 2026. Thirty of those games make up the league stage, and the top four sides go through to a four-match play-off week.
Qualifier 1 opens that week in Abu Dhabi on 16 December. The third and fourth-placed teams then meet in the Eliminator at Dubai International Stadium on 17 December, Qualifier 2 follows in Sharjah on 18 December, and the Final is at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday 20 December. Because the two teams in Qualifier 1 have earned the safety net of a second match, the game often becomes a test of nerve as much as form: win and you can rest before the Final, lose and you have to go again within 48 hours.
The two teams are only confirmed once the league stage ends, so the ticket page lists the fixture simply as Seed 1 vs Seed 2. Whoever tops the table will have earned home-straight momentum over four weeks of cricket shared between Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
Four seasons, four different champions
Part of the appeal of the ILT20 play-offs is that nobody has managed to hold on to the trophy. Gulf Giants won the inaugural title in 2023, beating Desert Vipers by seven wickets in the final. MI Emirates took the 2024 crown with a 45-run win over Dubai Capitals, and Dubai Capitals then lifted the trophy in 2025, beating Desert Vipers by four wickets at Dubai International Stadium.
Desert Vipers finally broke their final-day hoodoo in Season 4. On 4 January 2026 they beat MI Emirates by 46 runs in Dubai, with captain Sam Curran making an unbeaten 74 and collecting the Player of the Match award. Curran also won the Most Valuable Player and Best Batter belts for the season. Earlier in that play-off run the Vipers had beaten MI Emirates in Qualifier 1 as well, helped by a century from Andries Gous, a reminder of how much a strong night in this match can set a team up for the Final.
The Vipers start Season 5 as defending champions, and the five other franchises, including the capital’s own Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, will be chasing them through the league stage for a place in this game.
Zayed Cricket Stadium on play-off night
Zayed Cricket Stadium sits within the Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub in Khalifa City. Named after the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, it was inaugurated in 2004 and holds around 20,000 spectators, with stands and grass banks around the oval. It has hosted Test, one-day and T20 internationals, and staged matches at the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, including a semi-final.
Abu Dhabi hosts 11 of the 34 Season 5 matches, and Qualifier 1 is the last of them, so this is the capital’s final chance to see ILT20 cricket this season. Seating is unreserved in every enclosure on a first come, first served basis, and each stand has a different view of the pitch and a different amount of shade, with some seats having a restricted view.
A T20 match runs for around three and a half hours, so a 6:30pm start means a late-evening finish on a school night. The December evening is cooler than an afternoon session, which suits families as much as regular fans.
Tickets, entry and getting to the stadium
Tickets are sold through Platinumlist, with a limit of 10 per person, and they are emailed 48 hours before the match. Each ticket is valid for one entry. Alcohol cannot be brought in and smoking is only allowed in designated areas. There is no bag drop and you may be searched on entry. No dress code is listed.
By car, follow Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street, then the Abu Dhabi to Al Ain Truck Road (E30), turn onto Al Mudwi Street and continue on Al Mabrouk Street, taking the second exit at the next two roundabouts; the stadium is on your right. The ticket page recommends GPS, and taxis and ride-hailing apps are an easy alternative.
