The ILT20 Eliminator in Dubai is the do-or-die night of DP World ILT20 Season 5, played at Dubai International Stadium on Thursday 17 December 2026. The teams that finish third and fourth in the league stage meet with no safety net: the winner stays alive and moves on to Qualifier 2, the loser’s season is over.
Gates open at 4:30pm and the first ball is at 6:30pm, so this is a classic weeknight game under the Dubai lights.
What is at stake in the ILT20 Eliminator
Season 5 of the DP World International League T20, the UAE’s six-team franchise league, has 34 matches between late November and 20 December 2026: 30 in the league stage and four in the play-offs. Only the top four reach the knockouts, and the Eliminator is the toughest route through them.
The night before, the top two sides meet in Qualifier 1 in Abu Dhabi, and the loser of that game drops into Qualifier 2 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday 18 December. That is where the winner of this Eliminator goes next, with barely 24 hours to recover and travel. Win again in Sharjah and they reach the Final back at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday 20 December. In other words, the side that wins tonight needs three wins in four days to lift the trophy, which is exactly why the Eliminator tends to be played with so much urgency.
The ticket page lists the fixture as Seed 3 vs Seed 4, because the two teams are only known once the final league games are complete. Check the table in the last days of the league stage to see who you will be watching.
Champions who came the long way
The ILT20 has never had the same champion twice. Gulf Giants won the first season in 2023, MI Emirates won in 2024 with a 45-run victory over Dubai Capitals, and Dubai Capitals won their first title in 2025, beating Desert Vipers by four wickets in the final at this ground. Dubai Capitals’ path is a good reminder of how fine the margins are: reports note they had gone out in the Eliminator in 2023 and lost the final in 2024 before finally winning it.
The reigning champions are Desert Vipers, who beat MI Emirates by 46 runs in the Season 4 final at Dubai International Stadium on 4 January 2026. Captain Sam Curran scored an unbeaten 74 and was named Player of the Match, and he also took the season’s Most Valuable Player and Best Batter belts. Whoever finishes third or fourth this year will know that a run of form in the knockouts can count for more than the league table.
Dubai International Stadium under the Ring of Fire
Dubai International Stadium sits in Dubai Sports City on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and opened in 2009, staging its first one-day international that April when Pakistan played Australia. It holds around 25,000 spectators, and its “Ring of Fire” lighting system, around 350 floodlights set into the curved roof rather than on towers, is what makes night cricket here look so distinctive.
Dubai hosts 15 of the 34 Season 5 matches, more than Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, and it stages both the Eliminator and the Final. For ILT20 games, all enclosures are unreserved except the Platinum Enclosure, so most seats are first come, first served. Each stand has a different view of the pitch and a different amount of shade, and some seats have a restricted view.
A T20 match lasts around three and a half hours, so expect play to finish late in the evening. If you want a full knockout week, the ILT20 Qualifier 1 in Abu Dhabi is the night before and the ILT20 Qualifier 2 in Sharjah is the night after.
