About The Giving Family

The Giving Family is a community-led non-profit in Dubai that brings volunteers, businesses and donors together to support people in need. Gulf News reported that it was co-founded in 2017 by Sabrina Rabhi, Fadie Musallet and Zehra Rizvi, with the goal of sharing 100 to 500 meal packs with Dubai’s labour workforce.

It is best known for its Ramadan iftar drives in Al Quoz Industrial Area. According to Gulf News, it distributed about 350,000 meals during Ramadan 2024, with daily totals sometimes reaching 20,000, and hundreds of volunteers helping each day.

Beyond Ramadan, it runs donation drives for pre-loved clothing and children’s toys. Its main channel for news, volunteering times and locations is its Instagram account.

Guide

How to get involved with The Giving Family

Ramadan iftar drives

Every Ramadan, The Giving Family sets up in Al Quoz Industrial Area to pack and hand out iftar meals to workers. The National reported in March 2024 that each meal included chicken biryani, a carton of juice and three dates, and cost around AED 7 to make, with donations from individuals, charities, restaurants and companies made through Beit Al Khair Society. Volunteers of all ages, including children, help pack and serve the boxes, and companies and individuals can sponsor meals.

Donation drives through the year

The Giving Family also collects gently used clothing for women, men and children, and children’s toys in good working condition, and passes them on to low-income families across the UAE. During Ramadan 2025 it ran a donation drive with collection points at City Walk and The Beach, JBR, as part of the UAE’s Year of Community.

How to volunteer

Anyone can volunteer. The Giving Family shares distribution times and locations on its Instagram account, so that is the best place to check before you go. Volunteering is a lovely way to meet people and to give back, especially if you are new to Dubai and looking for a community.

According to The Giving Family’s website, there is no invitation, registration or membership needed to volunteer, and no age or religious restrictions. Children are welcome with their parents, and modest clothing and closed-toe shoes are advised. The website also says the organisation has been supported by more than 2,000 volunteers and has donated more than 1 million meals, and that its core costs are covered by corporate partners, so donations go to food, packaging and distribution. You can find the latest donation campaign on thegivingfamily.com.

Recognition

Gulf News reported that the initiative has been recognised by Dubai Police and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Le Petit Journal reported that it won the Social and Humanitarian category of the Trophées des Français du Moyen-Orient.
