About this event

Karak After Dark Vol 4: The Group Chat Edition brings a night of unscripted improv comedy and music to The Junction in Alserkal Avenue, Dubai, on Friday 13 November 2026. The premise is that you have been added to the chat, and the audience decides what happens next: you shout out suggestions, and the comedians turn them into chaos on the spot.

Doors open at 7:30pm and the show starts at 8pm. It is performed in English.

What is Karak After Dark?

Karak After Dark is a homegrown Dubai improv show, produced by Tall Tales Production in association with The Junction, with Asad Raza Khan and Salman Qureshi as co-producers. According to Khaleej Times, the show takes its cue from the TV classic Whose Line Is It Anyway?, with no script and every scene built from audience suggestions. The humour leans on everyday life in the UAE, which is exactly what makes it land with a local crowd.

The name is a nod to karak, the spiced, sweet milky tea that fuels much of the UAE, and the show promises a dose of karak to spice up your week. Its first night sold out, it returned for a second edition and a third, Back to School edition followed, so Vol 4 continues a run that has built a loyal following in a short time.

The cast

The ticket page promises some of Dubai’s finest comedians without naming them. Earlier editions have featured a cast drawn from six nationalities, including Asad Raza Khan, Salman Qureshi, Tarek El Saad, Osama Farooqui, Basel Yafi and Maria D’Costa, as reported by Khaleej Times. The final line-up for this edition has not been published, so treat that as a guide to the style rather than a confirmed bill.

The Group Chat Edition

Each volume has a theme, and this one is the group chat. The listing frames it as an outlet in a world full of red flags: a chance to come along and express yourself. Think of the family chat that never sleeps, the work group where someone always replies all, the friends’ chat that goes quiet when plans need confirming, and the midnight message you wish you had not sent. Now imagine a cast of quick-thinking performers running with whatever version of that the audience throws at them.

How the night works

Improv lives or dies on the room. The comedians ask for ideas, then build scenes, characters, storylines and punchlines in real time. Music is part of the format too, so expect a few suggestions to be turned into songs at very short notice. As co-producer Asad Raza Khan put it to Khaleej Times, every performance is different because the audience shapes what happens on stage.

You do not have to take part to enjoy it, but you will have more fun if you arrive with a few strange suggestions ready. For most of the audience, taking part simply means calling out ideas from your seat and seeing what the cast does with them. The best suggestions tend to be specific: a real group name, an odd job title, a place everyone in Dubai knows.

The venue: The Junction

The Junction is a black box theatre and performing arts space at Unit H72 in Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz, on the corner of 17th Street and 8th Street. It opened in 2015 and describes itself as a space created by performers, for performers. Its programme covers stand-up comedy, a cappella festivals, magic, dance and theatre in English, Arabic, Hindi, French and Italian. The week before Karak After Dark, for example, the theatre hosts a run of the play The Ugly One from 6 to 8 November.

A black box room suits improv well: the audience sits close to the performers, so the energy travels quickly in both directions. Alserkal Avenue itself, with its galleries, cafés and creative studios, is worth a wander if you arrive early.

Who it suits

This is a great night out with friends, colleagues or a date who likes to laugh. If you have been to stand-up nights and fancy something looser and more playful, improv is a fresh change. It is ideal for anyone who has ever said their group chat deserves its own show. No age policy is listed, and because improv can go anywhere, check with Platinumlist before bringing younger guests.

If your plans change after booking, Platinumlist lets you exchange your ticket with another fan.

Getting there

By car, take the Al Manara exit (exit 43) from Sheikh Zayed Road, then follow Al Manara Street, 8th Street and 17th Street into Alserkal Avenue. By Metro, take the Red Line to Noor Bank station and continue by taxi or bus for the short final stretch. Most taxi drivers know the location.
