Our guide to things to do in June in the UAE

June is the start of the long Gulf summer, and the most rewarding things to do in June in Dubai and the UAE are indoors, underwater or after dark. It is the month when locals settle into summer routines, school holidays come into view and the city’s malls, theme parks, cinemas and hotel pools become the main stage. It can be a great value month too, with summer offers in full swing. This is how we approach a June in the Emirates.

June weather: full summer heat

June is one of the hottest months of the year. Average daytime highs in Dubai are close to 40°C, and inland areas such as Al Ain and the desert regularly go higher. Nights usually stay around 27 to 30°C. Humidity begins to rise again from its spring low, often averaging in the mid 50s on the coast, with some muggy mornings and evenings. The sea is around 30 to 31°C, so it offers little relief in the afternoon, and rain is very rare. Hydration, shade and limiting time in direct sun are essential for everyone, especially children and older visitors.

What summer means for outdoor plans

Outdoor plans in June are mostly about very early mornings and late nights. Sunrise beach walks, a dawn swim or a sunrise paddleboard session are still enjoyable, but by mid morning the heat takes over. Most seasonal outdoor attractions are closed for the summer by June, and desert safaris run in reduced form, if at all, usually in the evening. Hotel pools and beach clubs carry on, with many offering shaded cabanas and misting fans. If you exercise outdoors, finish before 8am and carry water. Indoor gyms, padel courts in air-conditioned halls and indoor running tracks are popular alternatives, and many residents switch their weekend walks to the long, cool corridors of the big malls.

Indoor alternatives to fill the month

Fortunately, the UAE has some of the best indoor entertainment in the world. In Dubai, Ski Dubai, IMG Worlds of Adventure, the Dubai Aquarium, the Museum of the Future and Dubai Frame are reliable picks, and The Dubai Mall’s ice rink is a favourite on hot days. Indoor water play, trampoline parks and climbing walls are spread across the city’s malls. In Abu Dhabi, Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld Yas Island on Yas Island are under cover. For culture, try the galleries listed on our art and culture page, or book a class from our workshops page.

Events that usually fall around June

  • Dubai Summer Surprises: Dubai’s summer shopping and entertainment festival usually starts in late June or early July and runs through much of the summer, with mall promotions, raffles and family entertainment.
  • Summer camps: schools, sports academies and attractions usually announce holiday camps in June for the long break ahead.
  • Indoor concerts and comedy: live entertainment moves indoors to venues such as Coca-Cola Arena and Etihad Arena; see our concerts page.

School holidays and family planning

In our experience, June is the month to sort the summer out. The UAE academic year usually ends in late June or early July, depending on the year and the curriculum, after which the long summer break begins. Many families travel abroad, so the city feels quieter, roads are lighter and traffic eases noticeably. Those who stay often book summer camps, indoor activities and staycations. Our kids’ events page lists current family events and holiday activities across Dubai.

Ramadan, Eid and moving dates

Because the Islamic calendar is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian one, Ramadan and the two Eids arrive roughly 11 days earlier every year. Over the years, both Eid Al Adha and Ramadan pass through June, and when Eid Al Adha falls in this month it brings public holidays, family gatherings, hotel staycation demand and evening fireworks. Exact dates are confirmed by moon sighting, so keep plans flexible and watch official announcements.

As for booking ahead, summer camps fill quickly, so book places as soon as programmes open. If Eid falls in June, reserve hotels and flights early. Hotel and dining deals are plentiful, and our offers page is a good place to compare them. Popular indoor attractions can be busy at weekends and during school holidays, so buy timed tickets online.

Elsewhere in the UAE

Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island is the UAE’s biggest indoor theme park cluster and an easy summer day trip; see our Abu Dhabi guide. Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais is usually several degrees cooler than the coast, which makes the summit a popular early-evening escape. Fujairah and the east coast often have slightly different weather from the Gulf side, though humidity can be high. Sharjah’s air-conditioned museums, including the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, make a calm culture day. Ajman and Umm Al Quwain are quieter still, with relaxed beach hotels that suit a short summer break; see our Ras Al Khaimah guide for more northern emirates ideas, including mountain resorts.

Once June is behind you, the summer continues with long indoor days and a busy shopping calendar, and evenings start to stretch out with night swims, late cinema screenings and air-conditioned food halls. We will be updating our listings all season, so check back often.
