About this event

The Shang-Chi outdoor movie night in Dubai brings Marvel action to the lawn at JLT Park on Saturday 12 December 2026, when Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings plays on the big screen as part of Cinema Under the Stars, the free weekly open-air series in Jumeirah Lakes Towers. The film starts at 7:30pm in Cluster Q, and no ticket is needed to watch from the grass.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Released in September 2021 and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the Marvel Studios film that introduced Shang-Chi to the big screen. Simu Liu plays the title character, a skilled martial artist living a quiet life in San Francisco who is pulled back into the world of the Ten Rings, the organisation he tried to leave behind. It is led by his own father, Xu Wenwu, played by Hong Kong star Tony Leung.

Awkwafina co-stars as Katy, Shang-Chi’s best friend, and Michelle Yeoh appears as Ying Nan. The film is packed with spectacular fight scenes and fantasy creatures. It opened at number one at the global box office, taking 132.3 million US dollars worldwide over its debut weekend according to Disney, and earned strong reviews: critics’ scores in the low 90s on Rotten Tomatoes, a Metascore of 71 based on 52 reviews, and an “A” CinemaScore from audiences.

Cinema Under the Stars at JLT Park

Cinema Under the Stars is JLT’s community movie series, run by JLT by DMCC, which turns JLT Park into an open-air cinema on Saturday evenings during the cooler months. The series has been running for several seasons; DMCC first brought it to the community in partnership with Black + Decker in 2021. Last season opened in October 2025 and ran until 14 February 2026, closing with Wall-E, and recent line-ups have mixed family favourites such as Wall-E and The Greatest Showman with superhero films including Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Marvels.

This season, screenings run every Saturday through to 30 January 2027, and each film is announced two weeks ahead. All films are shown with English and Arabic subtitles, which makes the series easy to enjoy for mixed groups of friends and neighbours.

Shang-Chi outdoor movie night in Dubai: how the evening works

The screen is set up in JLT Park in Cluster Q, between Splendour Fields and the children’s playground. Watching from the lawn is free and does not need a ticket, but space on the grass is limited and taken on a first-come, first-served basis, so it pays to arrive before 7:30pm. You are welcome to bring your own chair, blanket, food and drinks, as long as you clean up afterwards, so a picnic dinner before the film is very much part of the experience.

For a little more comfort, reserved beanbag spots near the front of the screen come with a large popcorn and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. They are the only paid option on the night.

Who it suits

This screening is a good pick for Marvel fans, teenagers and adults who enjoy martial arts action. The film was rated PG-13 in the United States, so parents of younger children may want to check it first. Because the lawn is beside the playground, families with a range of ages can still make an evening of it. Pets are not allowed at the screenings. With subtitles in both English and Arabic, the screening also works for Arabic-speaking families who prefer to follow the dialogue in Arabic, and for anyone who finds dialogue harder to catch in an outdoor setting.

Getting to JLT Park, Cluster Q

JLT Park sits in Cluster Q of Jumeirah Lakes Towers. According to JLT, it is about a five-minute walk from Sobha Realty Metro Station on the Red Line, using Exit 1 and walking through Cluster R. Paid parking is available in Clusters Q and R and at JLT Park, and taxis can drop off at Cluster Q, Cluster R or the park entrance.

There is level access from the promenade and accessible toilets in Cluster Q, so the screening works for wheelchair users and buggies too. JLT’s lakeside clusters are lined with cafés and restaurants if you would rather eat out before the film than bring a picnic.

More December evenings out

Outdoor cinema is one of the simplest pleasures of a UAE winter, and with a new film every Saturday it is easy to turn into a habit. If you want a festive family outing on the same weekend, Winter City and Disney+ Once Upon a Holiday at Expo City Dubai also screens holiday films outdoors after dark.
